Oxytocin is a naturally occurring cyclic nonapeptide synthesized in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus and released via the posterior pituitary gland. As one of the most extensively studied neuropeptides in biomedical research, oxytocin plays multifaceted roles in neuroendocrine signaling, peripheral organ function, and central nervous system modulation.

In preclinical and in vitro research, oxytocin has been investigated across a broad range of biological systems.
